At the end of 2011, when Ihaleakala Hew Len (hereafter referred to as Dr. Hew Len) visited Northern Italy for the second time, he remarked during his stay that an earthquake would soon occur here. However, earthquakes were not a familiar occurrence in Italy; to Italians like myself, they were simply disasters we saw in the news. Those present didn’t quite understand what he was talking about, and some even laughed. I, too, thought that he might be using the word “earthquake” metaphorically.

In May 2012, an earthquake struck, centered in Northern Italy. Many people were shocked by this massive earthquake, a first-time experience for them, and the damages were extensive. Even while practicing cleaning, I was struck by the profound connection Dr. Hew Len seemed to have with the Earth.

When we truly understand and take care of our Self—our true essence—and live with its purpose and true functions, we become connected through every identity and divinity. When I am in tune with my true self, my body is connected to the Earth.

Whether we focus on caring for our body or the environment, we tend to look outward first—considering what to eat, which sports to do, what to buy or not buy, where to go, constantly making external binary choices of good or bad. However, what truly matters is connecting with oneself. For both your body and the environment, when your inner compass is steady, any choices you make will be guided through you by divinity.

When we return to our purest state, we can even hear the voice of the Earth itself, should it be necessary. Through Ho’oponopono, let’s start with detoxifying memories. When the mind is free of memories, the body knows everything.
