The people I meet at work come to show me what is within me
What is especially important for me is to remind myself:
“I am the one making the movie.”
No matter what problem is happening in front of me right now, whether it is something joyful or something that causes me suffering, it comes from within me. Through every experience, I am watching memories that were already in me being replayed.
It is very easy to think, “It’s happening outside,” “It’s because of something else,” and when a problem arises, my first instinct, too, is to look for the cause outside. But what we learn in Self I-Dentity through Ho’oponopono® is that we are the only ones who can change that movie. By looking at ourselves and going within.
So I have to stop and think:
“First of all, this is happening within me.”
That is the starting point.
Four days at home, working on myself
Let me share one experience I had.
Once, a small conflict with a colleague at work left me so tense that I took four days off in a row. During those four days at home, I simply worked on cleaning whatever welled up within me. It was a very painful time.
The workplace can become a place of pain. This is because the places we belong to—work, school, family—draw people with whom we have aka cords (connections). We cannot know with our minds what happened in the past to those people, or between us and them.
I always found myself in workplaces where there was pain. Wherever I went, it was the same. So I have always been working on that.
During those four days, too, I practiced Ho’oponopono on myself and on the people, places, and projects involved—on everything that appeared in my consciousness.
When I returned to work after those four days, that person apologized to me—almost in tears. I did not clean to get that kind of result. It was not that I set out to “do Ho’oponopono and produce this result.”
It was all within me. It was very clear.
The pain was within me.
Not that person, but the experience I am having
Inside, I want to say, “It’s that person’s fault.” But the “that person” I have fixed in my mind does not exist. Everything is an experience we are having. Most of the time, we are not even seeing the other person as they are. I see the other person through memories, and I am simply speaking, from still more memories, to what those memories have brought up.
So the moment I sense a problem, I ask myself,
“What is happening within me that is making me experience this?”
No matter how things may look, those people appear in order to give us the opportunity to see what is happening within us.
No matter how long I have practiced Ho’oponopono, I still react strongly and instantly. But when I notice it, I simply need to clean the experience I am having now.
