Voicesfrom Hawaii

This is Part 2 of the series "Voices from Hawaii." Once again, we spoke with Instructor Jean Nakasato on the island of Oahu. The interviewer is Irene Taira.

The conversation began with AI and the future, moved to the question of whether our future is decided by man or by Divinity, and then turned to the day Jean first came to know Ho'oponopono.

Part 2

Who Determines Your Future?

In the Age of AI, Look at Self

Jean

When we talk about the future and AI, I always think to myself: if I had a website, it should be called lookatme.com. Just look at self.

Irene

That is right. When it comes to AI, I feel it in me too, and I often hear worries about the future. Things are changing faster than ever. Every day we see new information, new updates and new technology. It is fun, but sometimes I am afraid I cannot keep up, or I am not sure what it will bring in the future. Do you clean with AI, too?

Jean

Oh, yes. You can clean with AI. AI itself has its own identity, and it has its own pathway.

But we must remember that AI is created by man. Whatever man puts into AI is what comes out. So it is limited.

AI is useful if it is used well. It can also be used harmfully, and it can even be used for fraud. It has all of those aspects. So all the fears we have about AI and all the thoughts we have about it, good, bad or indifferent, we still clean. Like any other issue, just clean.

Man or Divinity: Who Determines Your Future?

Jean

We tend to think that AI is going to determine our future, but it is man. Man is determining man's future.

But the question is, who do you want to determine your future? Man or Divinity?

But the question is, who do you want to determine your future?

Irene

So if I continue to clean myself, my actions move toward connecting with Divinity.

Jean

Yes, that is the connection. You have to hook up to Divinity, because Divinity created all of us.

Who knows what is right and perfect for all of us? I would not know. No man would know. Only Divinity knows.

So the path is to get back. Pull yourself up into the canoe, and get back on Divinity's path.

The Day I Met Ho'oponopono

Irene

How did you first come to know Ho'oponopono?

Jean

My husband and I were living on the island of Maui when I first learned Ho'oponopono. There was a huge article in the Maui News, with a picture of Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona sitting in a rocking chair. It said she was going to give a free lecture one night on Maui, and that she would talk about repentance, forgiveness and transmutation, and how you could set things right in your life.

Before Ho'oponopono, I actually did not believe in anything. All I knew was that you are born into this life, and you die. My husband used to read all these books on monks and spirituality and would talk about the afterlife, and I used to think he was crazy.

But when I looked at the picture of Morrnah, there was something about her eyes that just drew me. The lecture was about how you can make right what you did wrong, so I said we have to go and hear this. I had many regrets growing up.

We went to the lecture on a Friday night. In the middle of it, Morrnah turned to my husband and said, "Young man, move this table." He stood up, moved the table and froze. He said that when she looked at him, it was as if a light went through his whole body.

When the lecture was over and I walked out into the parking lot, I tried to talk, and I could not. I had lost my voice. It was laryngitis. I guess my body was in shock from what she had said.

Then Morrnah said she was going to give a class that weekend. So we went that weekend, and that is how it all began. We were in awe, because here was a kahuna talking about all of these things.

At the end of the two days, Morrnah walked up to my husband and me and said, "Oh, it is so nice to see you again." We thought, we do not even know who you are. That was the beginning of Ho'oponopono.

The Headaches Were Gone Within a Month

Irene

When you first encountered Ho'oponopono, were you able to accept the teaching right away, or did it take time?

Jean

It took time, because I was not sure whether it worked. For the first week or two after the class, I just did what she told us: "Do this, do this, do this."

Then over the weeks, maybe in about a month, I realized that I no longer had headaches. It was as if my body had shifted, and I wondered what was happening. I thought, this must really make some sense.

The other part was really interesting. Morrnah always talked about land cleaning. She said the land can have a great impact on your life and your illnesses.

At that time my husband was working for the plantation on Maui, and we lived in plantation housing. It had been sugarcane fields, and there were also graveyards. Morrnah talked about earthbound spirits, too. All these different concepts and ideas came up, and I thought, I had better pay attention to this.

Living Through the Surgeries by Cleaning

Irene

And from then until now, you have never doubted it. You have never gone off the path.

Jean

No doubts come up. But I always felt that I could go back to it and clean.

There were times when my parents became very sick and were about to die, and I wondered what to do. But I always had a sense of perspective: here is the situation, and what am I going to do about this situation? Or about myself?

I had many health problems, one after another. Within a short period I had a knee surgery, a hysterectomy, vein surgery and eye surgery. My mother passed away. My husband even asked me, "Are you ready to die?"

When I was about to have the knee surgery, the medical check showed a huge tumor. I had a tumor in my uterus that I did not know about. Before surgery they sent me for an echocardiogram and told me, "You have a heart problem." So I thought, I had better clean myself. I cleaned, cleaned, cleaned, and when I went back for the next echocardiogram, they said, "That was a technical error. You do not have any heart problems."

With each of those, I just kept cleaning. That is how I lived through it.

With each of those, I just kept cleaning. That is how I lived through it.

One Week at My Mother's Side

Jean

My mother was in the hospital for one week before she passed away. I sat by her bed and cleaned 24 hours a day. That is all. And in the end, she passed peacefully.

Irene

Seeing someone off as they pass away, or watching someone very dear to you suffer physically and go through a very hard time, is very hard. Thank you for sharing your experience. What did you do at that time?

Jean

I just cleaned. I did the Ho'oponopono 12 Steps process over and over again, I used whatever cleaning tools came to me, and I repeated the prayers again and again. I was simply cleaning the whole time.

And I cleaned a lot on my emotions. What I was feeling, my fears, my anxiety.

Irene

Regrets.

Jean

Regrets and frustrations. "I should have done this, and I did not." "I said this, and I should not have said it." For one solid week with my mother, I just cleaned all of those things.

Irene

How did you end up sending her off?

Jean

Whatever it was, I just kept cleaning, and at the end of the week she passed. She just went, like taking one last breath.

The moment she passed was really beautiful. Through the hospital window we could see beautiful orange and purple skies. Then I knew it was okay, and I let her go.

The Fear of Regret

Irene

Listening to you, I realize that I have a fear of feeling regret. I am so afraid of it, yet I have already decided that I will definitely feel regret.

Jean

So you clean that. "If my mother passes away, I will feel regret." You clean that thought, whatever that thought is.

I am not sure exactly what I did, but at the moment they said, "This is her last breath," I knew I did something. Whatever tool I used, I said, "Okay, this is it. I had better clean this moment."

Irene

I am so grateful to hear this. It is a strong fear that everyone faces someday.

Jean

Even the fear of our own death. I always wonder what the afterlife is going to be like. But the more I clean that thought in myself, the more it becomes okay.

"Look at Yourself"

Irene

When you were first taught by Morrnah, what do you remember? Including her actual words.

Jean

Her actual words were, "Look at yourself." That is all she said. Just look at yourself.

The other point she made was, "I have no followers." We thought, huh? We were so used to support groups. You take a class, you get a support group, you rely on people. That is how we had always been trained.

But Morrnah said your only support group is you and your triune.

It took years for that to sink in, to understand what she was really talking about. She was such a renowned lady, known worldwide. Why would she not want any followers, like the followers we have on Facebook and Instagram?

Because we came to realize that those are all aka cords, attachments. What you truly need is that inner connection, Morrnah said, and that is your support group.

If you were the last person on this planet Earth, who is going to save you? Your triune, your Unihipili. It is that hookup.

That is why it is important to take good care of self.

Your only support group is you and your triune.
