So I tried it on what had been my biggest theme: a very difficult person close to me. But after I did, something felt off. “Wait \u2014 am I trying to change this person?” From then on, I used the tool on myself, over and over.<\/p>\n\n\n
After that, I began to feel a mass of “very painful energy.” It held me tightly and would not let go. What is this, I wondered. What is this black, painful energy?<\/p>\n\n\n
Then, before long, a memory surfaced. That “very difficult person close to me” had told me, some time ago, that their own mother had lived for many years suppressed in the home she married into, under her mother-in-law \u2014 that person’s grandmother \u2014 and had suffered a great deal. Ah, I thought. So this is what the “very painful energy” I was feeling had been.<\/p>\n\n\n
But at that moment I thought, “Even so, this has nothing to do with me.” Someone else’s family, someone else’s house.<\/p>\n\n\n
And yet, right away, I thought again: perhaps that isn’t so. Perhaps cleaning in Ho’oponopono means cleaning this black, painful energy that has been passed along to me through another person.<\/p>\n\n\n
So I kept cleaning that heavy energy for a while, and I came to see that the “very difficult person close to me” was also just one person, bound by memories of the past, unable to move, suffering.<\/p>\n\n\n
As that went on, I gradually became lighter. I was released from that painful energy that had held me and gone round and round in my head, and I was able to return to my true, usual self.<\/p>\n\n\n
And the next day, while I was typing this out, the doorbell rang. I went to the door, and it was that person. The two of us talked happily for a while. Somehow even the air around us looked as though it were sparkling.<\/p>\n\n\n
Without my knowing it, that person was no longer “a very difficult person close to me.” It was a surprise \u2014 truly! It sounds like a made-up story, and even I am amazed.<\/p>\n\n\n
