One important thing to understand is that Ho\u2019oponopono does not work in a way where cleaning guarantees the outcome you want. For example, if you are struggling financially and you clean, it doesn\u2019t mean you will necessarily receive more money. That\u2019s not how Ho\u2019oponopono works.

The essence of Ho\u2019oponopono is making a repentance and forgiveness. Understanding this is fundamental to understanding the practice.
2. The conscious mind\u2019s perception is limited.<\/mark><\/strong>
Another aspect of self-education involves understanding the Self, which comprises the conscious mind, subconscious mind, and superconscious mind.
The conscious mind, responsible for thinking, perceives only a fraction of what exists in the vast universe. For instance, we believe we understand what\u2019s happening based on what we see or hear in the news. However, much of what occurs is beyond our awareness.
When we practice Ho\u2019oponopono, we request the release of memories tied to the experiences or problems we perceive. While these situations may be unpleasant, we cannot consciously know where the cleaning energy travels in the universe or how it operates.
The results of cleaning are also beyond the conscious mind\u2019s ability to anticipate or define. If we insist on believing that we know what the outcome should be, this is a form of arrogance\u2014assuming we are smarter than the universe. Recognizing this is a valuable part of self-education.
3. Clean your memories without expectations.<\/mark><\/strong>
I\u2019ve met people who had no prior knowledge of Ho\u2019oponopono, spent only an hour with me, and then left. They didn\u2019t know how Ho\u2019oponopono works, but they began their cleaning. They understood, \u201cI am simply cleaning my memories, without expecting specific outcomes.\u201d

If someone tells me they don\u2019t want to practice Ho\u2019oponopono, I never insist they should. Instead, I explain that Ho\u2019oponopono is like a carpenter\u2019s toolbox\u2014it\u2019s there to help us navigate life. Each person decides whether or not to use it.
In Ho\u2019oponopono, we say that nothing happens outside of us. This is a fundamental principle.
If someone feels frustrated with their life\u2014perhaps they\u2019ve lost money, gone through a divorce, or faced other challenges\u2014this is simply where they are at that moment. The choice is whether to point fingers and blame others for their circumstances.
When we practice Ho\u2019oponopono, we approach ourselves with humility. Ho\u2019oponopono is about us\u2014how we choose to live our lives. That\u2019s the perspective I want to share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
